Macquarie Business Centre (MBC) is eager to assist local Indigenous Australians in acquiring the skills required to gain employment and work towards ‘closing the gap’.
MBC found that a common barrier among many young Indigenous jobseekers was the need of a drivers licence. In 2009 MBC received funding from the Australian Government to deliver a pre-employment driver training program.
The program was extremely successful, with MBC filling 100% of the training quota and after MBC assisted candidates to gain their driver’s licence many of the participants gained employment almost immediately!
Although the main purpose of the program was to assist the Indigenous jobseekers in gaining employment, there was also a follow on benefit of supplying a beneficial life skill to not only the individual but also to their community.
