Wynand (aka Wynnie), is a passionate young sportsman that lives for the game of cricket!
His love for the game sees him playing both indoor and outdoor cricket, where he represents at community and district level, proudly leading his district team as vice-captain.
Wynand is often complimented for his good sportsmanship and his humble nature on and off the field. He is well-known in the cricket community for his go-getter attitude, passion, perseverance, ability and skill.
Wynand started playing at the tender age of 7 in his home country, South Africa. His passion for the game grew quickly, and he has put a lot of time and effort in over the last 6 years to become the player he is today, representing WA for a second year in a row.
Although he is most certainly an all-rounder, his strengths are used differently in each team he represents. He is the main wicketkeeper of his district team, and at community level he features amongst the bowlers.
His training speaks volumes to his dedication and desire to master his craft. He formally trains 5 nights a week, a mix of district and community training, professional coaching with a well-known retired national player and then with a first-grade player. When he is not formally training, he is keeping his number one fan, his dad, on his toes with up to 250 bowls and fetches a session.
This dedication has not gone unnoticed as Wynand has been named “Batsman of the Year” numerous times, hit three 50’s during the 2022 season, named Champion Player in both his community and distract teams and is also proudly known as the leading run scorer for his community club.
Wynand has aspirations to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Marnus Labuschagne and AB de Villiers and play the game professionally for as long as he possibly can.
This inspiring young man’s dreams are supported and driven by his parents, Willem and Voila Basson, who will stop at nothing to nurture his talent and passion for the game.
